Erin's Own Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1885 and since then has been the main sporting organization in the Castlecomer area. Hundreds of players and supporters have derived great enjoyment from involvement over the years. This year, 2010, we celebrate our 125th Anniversary. We intend having a number of items throughout the year and welcome all your suggestions and participation as the year goes on.
Erin's Own fielded teams in 11 different grades of hurling and in 7 grades of football in 2009 and are continuing to upgrade the recently opened Canon Kearns Park (photo above).
The second pitch in Ballycomey opened for business in 2009 following an extensive job undertaken duirng the autumn/winter. Final works on dugouts and a wall along the main pitch are going ahead early 2010.
Erin's Own returned to the Senior Grade in 2009 and had a very successful year by reaching the Senior Semi-Final eventually going down to James Stephens. This was only the second loss in League and Championship in the full year. They also went on and won the O'Byrne Cup by beating near neighbours St Martins.
With a membership of over 300 adults and almost 150 youths the club is in the enviable position of having two properties, the first - The Prince Grounds- which is in the town and the second -Canon Kearns Park- which is just on the outskirts of the town, towards Kilkenny.
